2-(4-Chlorophenoxy)isobutyric acid, commonly abbreviated PCIB, is an aryloxyisobutyric acid bearing a para-chlorophenoxy group and a gem-dimethyl centre alpha to the carboxyl function. It is best known in plant science as an auxin antagonist and is widely used to probe auxin signalling in physiology and tissue culture experiments. In synthetic work it also serves as a building block toward esters, amides, and other aryloxyisobutyrate derivatives of medicinal chemistry interest.
