TCI C1318 4(5)-Cyanomethylimidazole combines a tautomeric imidazole ring with a reactive acetonitrile side chain. The nitrile group can be reduced to a primary amine, hydrolysed to an acid or amide, or converted into a tetrazole bioisostere.
