Description
TCI C1556 2-Cyanobenzyl bromide is a highly reactive benzylic halide bearing a nitrile group ortho to the bromomethyl position. It reacts rapidly with amines, thiols, phenols, and stabilized carbanions, making it an efficient reagent for installing the 2-cyanobenzyl fragment onto a target molecule. The ortho nitrile can subsequently be reduced, hydrolyzed, or cyclized to give isoindolinones and related pharmaceutically relevant heterocycles. AMI Scientific offers this TCI reagent in 10 g and 25 g packs; because benzylic bromides are lachrymatory and irritating, all handling should be carried out in a fume hood.
