TCI P2420 PhenoFluor(TM) Mix is a fluorination reagent designed for deoxyfluorination, the replacement of a hydroxyl group with a fluorine atom. It was developed as a practical version of the original PhenoFluor reagent and consists of a chloroimidazolium salt mixed with cesium fluoride. In organic synthesis laboratories, PhenoFluor Mix is used to convert phenols directly into aryl fluorides. This transformation is difficult to achieve with conventional fluorination methods, and it is in strong demand in medicinal chemistry and materials chemistry.
The main advantage of PhenoFluor Mix is that it is practical to use. The original PhenoFluor reagent is sensitive to moisture, so this mixed form was developed to be easier to store and handle. That makes it suitable for routine laboratory work without overly complex procedures. The reagent can deoxyfluorinate phenols carrying a wide range of functional groups, including electron-rich phenols, which are usually hard to fluorinate by nucleophilic aromatic substitution. This makes late-stage fluorination possible: once a complex molecule has been built, only the hydroxyl group needs to be replaced.
In Indonesian laboratories, PhenoFluor Mix is mainly suited to university research groups in synthetic organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry, as well as pharmaceutical and materials research and development teams. These groups often need to introduce fluorine into aromatic structures to study how it changes molecular properties. Because the reagent is practical to handle, it is a good fit for laboratories that want access to modern fluorination chemistry without specialized infrastructure. Researchers can work with fluorinated analogues of existing phenolic compounds and compare them directly with the parent structures.

- Deoxyfluorination of phenols: the reagent replaces the hydroxyl group on phenols directly with fluorine, giving aryl fluorides in a single transformation that is hard to achieve with conventional methods.
- Late-stage fluorination in medicinal chemistry: complex molecules that are already assembled can be fluorinated at a phenolic position, so researchers do not have to redesign the entire synthetic route.
- Fluorination of electron-rich phenols: the reagent works on electron-rich substrates that are usually difficult to fluorinate by nucleophilic aromatic substitution, which widens the range of usable starting materials.
- Synthesis of functionalized aryl fluorides: the reagent tolerates phenols with many different functional groups, so it suits the preparation of diverse fluorinated building blocks for further synthesis work.
- Materials chemistry research: adding fluorine to aromatic frameworks is useful when studying how fluorine changes material properties, and this reagent gives a practical route to those fluorinated aromatic compounds.

Although PhenoFluor Mix is easier to handle than the original PhenoFluor, it should still be protected from moisture. Keep the reagent in its original, tightly closed container in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place, away from water, humidity and incompatible materials. Reseal the container promptly after each use, and consider storing it in a desiccator or under an inert atmosphere to keep it in good condition. Handle the reagent in a fume hood. Wear suitable personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, chemical-resistant gloves and a laboratory coat. Avoid inhaling dust and avoid contact with skin and eyes. Always check the manufacturer's Safety Data Sheet for specific storage conditions, hazards and disposal requirements before use.
