Collection: Diterpenes

Diterpenes — encompasses twenty-carbon terpenoid compounds built from four isoprene units, ranging from resin acids such as abietic acid to oxygenated diterpenoid derivatives such as tanshinones and triptolide. The polycyclic structures of these compounds generally originate from plant sources and serve as the basic framework for various natural product research.

Diterpenes are studied by natural product chemists and pharmacognosists to isolate and characterize bioactive compounds from plants, such as steviol as a precursor of sweet glycosides or tanshinones from the roots of Salvia miltiorrhiza. Triptolide and abietic acid are often used as reference compounds in structure-activity relationship studies as well as in the synthesis of semisynthetic derivatives in organic chemistry laboratories.

Example products in this collection: TCI A0002 631-71-0 Ethyl Abietate, TCI C2488 3650-09-7 Carnosic Acid (Synthetic), TCI A0001 514-10-3 Abietic Acid, TCI C3363 35825-57-1 Cryptotanshinone, TCI T4372 471-80-7 Steviol, TCI C3477 3650-09-7 Carnosic Acid, TCI T4153 568-73-0 Tanshinone I, TCI D1180 Dehydroabietylamine.

Pay attention to the origin and isolation method of the compounds (natural versus semisynthetic), purity level, and stability toward oxidation, since many diterpenoids easily degrade when exposed to air or light. All products are genuine Tokyo Chemical Industry (TCI) Japan products, with purity, packaging, and storage conditions listed on each item's page.
