Collection: Hemiterpenes

Hemiterpenes — a group of C5 compounds derived from isoprene units, such as angelic acid, tiglic acid, and related cyclic lactones, which form the simplest framework in the terpenoid family. This group serves as building blocks for synthesizing terpenoid molecules and more complex flavor and fragrance compounds.

Hemiterpenes such as trans-2-Methyl-2-butenal and Tiglic Acid are used as building blocks in organic synthesis to produce esters, lactones, and branched carboxylic acid derivatives. Compounds such as 3-Methyl-3-buten-1-ol and Methyl 3,3-Dimethylacrylate are also used by flavor and fragrance researchers as aroma precursors, as well as in studies of terpenoid chemistry and secondary metabolite biosynthesis in academic and industrial laboratories.

Example products in this collection: TCI A1136 565-63-9 Angelic Acid, TCI I0160 78-79-5 Isoprene (stabilized with TBC), TCI A1090 591-12-8 alpha-Angelicalactone, TCI M0178 115-18-4 2-Methyl-3-buten-2-ol, TCI T1003 497-03-0 trans-2-Methyl-2-butenal, TCI M0182 503-74-2 Isovaleric Acid, TCI T0246 80-59-1 Tiglic Acid, TCI M0378 814-78-8 3-Methyl-3-buten-2-one (stabilized with HQ).

Pay attention to the purity and geometric isomer configuration (cis/trans, E/Z) of both tiglic and angelic acid, as these are isomer pairs with different reactivity, as well as the physical form (liquid or solid), which affects handling in the laboratory. All products are genuine Tokyo Chemical Industry (TCI) Japan products, with purity, packaging, and storage conditions listed on the page of each item.
