Ion Pair Reagents (for HPLC) — contains reagents in the form of acids or quaternary ammonium salts that are added to the mobile phase to form ion pairs with charged analytes, so that their retention on reversed-phase chromatography columns can be controlled. Some reagents are supplied as solutions of a specified concentration, ready to use.

Ion Pair Reagents (for HPLC) are used by laboratory analysts in HPLC and LC-MS methods to separate polar or charged compounds, such as nucleic acids, peptides, and pharmaceutical compounds that are difficult to separate with ordinary mobile phases. Perfluorinated acid-based reagents are commonly used in LC-MS analysis because they are compatible with mass spectrometry detection.
