TCI Chloroacetaldehyde Diethyl Acetal (catalog C0084, CAS 621-62-5) is a protected form of chloroacetaldehyde in which the reactive aldehyde is masked as a diethyl acetal. This makes it far easier to store and handle than the free aldehyde while still delivering the same two-carbon unit to a reaction. With a reactive chlorine leaving group and an acetal that can be unmasked under acidic conditions, it is a versatile building block for thiazole, imidazole, and related heterocycle syntheses.
