TCI p-Cresol (C0400) is the para isomer of cresol, a methyl-substituted phenol valued as a building block in materials chemistry. Its symmetrical, linear geometry makes it particularly useful in the synthesis of liquid crystal precursors, phenolic antioxidants, and polymer additives. Analytical laboratories also use it as a reference compound when separating cresol isomers by chromatography. Available in 25 g and 500 g packs, it is corrosive and skin-permeable, so all handling must take place in a fume hood with appropriate protective equipment.
