TCI C0668 Cholesterol Butyrate (CAS 521-13-1), also known as cholesteryl butyrate, is a cholesterol ester belonging to the family of cholesteric liquid crystal materials. Its rigid steroid core combined with a short ester chain promotes the helical molecular arrangement responsible for selective light reflection and temperature-dependent colour changes. These properties make it a classical material for studies of phase transitions, thermochromic films, and anisotropic optical behaviour, typically examined by DSC and polarised light microscopy.
