2-Chloro-3,5-dinitrobenzotrifluoride (TCI C1036, CAS 392-95-0) is a highly activated aromatic building block bearing two nitro groups and a trifluoromethyl substituent. These strong electron-withdrawing groups make the chlorine atom exceptionally reactive toward nucleophilic aromatic substitution with amines, thiols, and alcohols. It is therefore valued both as a synthetic intermediate for fluorinated aromatics and as a derivatizing reagent for amine-containing analytes. AMI Scientific supplies this product in a 5 g research-scale pack, and it should be handled in a fume hood with appropriate protective equipment.
