TCI P3304 Platinum 2% on Carbon is a heterogeneous catalyst. It consists of platinum dispersed on a carbon support at a 2% metal loading and is supplied wetted with approximately 55% water. In synthetic chemistry laboratories, platinum catalysts complement palladium catalysts because the two metals react differently. Platinum is especially useful for hydrogenating aromatic rings and for reducing nitro groups on substrates that contain halogens. Because the catalyst is a solid, it can be filtered out after the reaction, which makes product work-up and purification simpler.
The 2% platinum loading is relatively low. This makes the catalyst a good choice when researchers want more controlled activity or need to limit side reactions caused by an overly active catalyst. Platinum is generally less likely than palladium to break carbon–halogen bonds, so it is often chosen to reduce halogenated nitroarenes without losing the halogen atom. The water content of about 55% lowers the ignition risk that dry noble-metal catalysts can pose when exposed to organic solvent vapours. This makes the catalyst safer to weigh, transfer and charge into reaction vessels during routine laboratory work.
In Indonesian laboratories, this catalyst is useful to researchers in synthetic organic chemistry and materials chemistry, as well as to university, research institute and industrial R&D laboratories that run catalytic hydrogenation. It suits research groups developing synthetic routes to intermediates, fine chemicals and functionalised aromatic compounds where selectivity matters. Its water-wetted form also helps teaching and research laboratories maintain safer handling practices when working with hydrogen gas and flammable organic solvents in shared facilities.

- Hydrogenation of aromatic rings: platinum's reactivity differs from palladium's, which makes this catalyst a useful option for saturating aromatic systems in synthetic research.
- Reduction of halogenated nitroarenes: platinum is generally less likely to cleave carbon–halogen bonds, so researchers can reduce nitro groups while keeping the halogen substituents intact.
- Controlled-activity hydrogenation studies: the low 2% platinum loading gives more moderate activity, which helps reduce unwanted side reactions caused by an overly active catalyst.
- Comparative catalyst screening: the material can be tested alongside palladium catalysts to compare selectivity and reactivity when optimising reaction conditions for a new synthetic route.
- Heterogeneous catalysis teaching and research: the solid catalyst is easily separated by filtration after reaction, which shows the practical advantages of heterogeneous systems in product purification.

| Physical form | solid catalyst of 2% platinum on a carbon support, wetted with ca. 55% water |
| Storage | keep the container tightly closed and keep the catalyst in its water-wetted state |
Store the catalyst in its original, tightly sealed container in a cool, well-ventilated area, away from heat sources, ignition sources and oxidising agents. Do not let the material dry out, because the water content reduces its ignition risk. Handle it in a fume hood and wear safety glasses, gloves and a laboratory coat. When adding the catalyst to a reaction, keep it away from flammable solvent vapours and hydrogen sources until the vessel is properly inerted. After the reaction, keep the filtered catalyst wet and dispose of spent material according to the laboratory's chemical waste procedures and the supplier's Safety Data Sheet.
