PEG Oligomers — contains ethylene glycol oligomers with a specific number of ethylene oxide units, in either free diol or monomethyl ether form, ranging from triethylene glycol to octaethylene glycol. These short, uniform chains distinguish them from high-molecular-weight polymeric polyethylene glycol.
These PEG oligomers are used by bioorganic and pharmaceutical chemistry researchers in PEGylation reactions to attach short hydrophilic chains to proteins, peptides, or small molecules in order to modify solubility and pharmacokinetic properties. Monomethyl ether derivatives such as tetraethylene glycol monomethyl ether and pentaethylene glycol monomethyl ether are also commonly used as building blocks for linker and spacer synthesis in conjugation chemistry.
