Description

TCI B6396, 3-acetylbiphenyl (CAS 3112-01-4), is an aromatic methyl ketone that combines a rigid biphenyl framework with a versatile acetyl handle at the meta position. The ketone readily undergoes reduction, Grignard addition, aldol and Claisen-Schmidt condensations, and condensation with binucleophiles to give pyrazoles, isoxazoles, and related heterocycles. α-Halogenation of the acetyl group also provides access to reactive phenacyl halides for further alkylation chemistry. Supplied as a 1 g pack, this solid should be kept tightly closed in a cool, dry place, protected from light and away from strong oxidisers.
