TCI C0790 Ethyl 2-Chloropropionate (CAS 535-13-7) is an α-chloro ester that acts as a versatile alkylating reagent. The activated secondary halide readily undergoes substitution with oxygen, nitrogen, and sulfur nucleophiles, including phenols en route to aryloxypropionate derivatives. Its stereogenic C-2 centre also makes it a useful starting point for stereoselective studies, while α-haloesters of this type are widely used as controlled radical polymerisation initiators. TCI supplies it as a liquid in 25 mL and 100 mL packs for laboratory-scale reactions.
