TCI C0872 N-(2-Cyanoethyl)-N-methylaniline (CAS 94-34-8) is a tertiary aniline derivative carrying both a methyl group and a 2-cyanoethyl chain on the nitrogen atom. The electron-rich aniline ring and the electron-withdrawing nitrile group give the molecule a donor–acceptor character that is useful in dye chemistry and in push–pull material research. Its nitrile can be hydrolyzed or reduced to carboxylic acids, amides, or primary amines, while the activated ring readily undergoes electrophilic substitution and diazo coupling. Offered in 25g and 500g packs, the material must be handled in a fume hood with chemical-resistant gloves and eye protection, and stored cool, dark, and tightly sealed.
