TCI C1178 3,3-Diethoxypropionitrile (CAS 2032-34-0) is a bifunctional liquid building block bearing both a nitrile group and a diethyl acetal, effectively serving as a protected aldehyde equivalent. The acetal remains stable under basic and nucleophilic conditions yet can be hydrolysed under acidic conditions to reveal the free aldehyde. The nitrile can be reduced to an amine, hydrolysed to an acid or amide, or used in heterocycle formation, giving chemists flexible routes for chain elongation. Supplied in a 10 mL pack, it should be dispensed in a fume hood and stored tightly closed away from acids, moisture, and heat.
