TCI C1475 5-Chloro-2-methylbenzothiazole is a substituted benzothiazole building block carrying a methyl group at the 2-position and a chlorine on the benzene ring. The 2-methyl group is acidic enough to be deprotonated and condensed with aldehydes, a route commonly used to prepare cyanine dyes and fluorescent probes. The aromatic chlorine offers an additional handle for transition metal catalysed cross-coupling reactions.
