TCI D3860 Dodecyldimethyl(3-sulfopropyl)ammonium Hydroxide Inner Salt is a zwitterionic surfactant of the sulfobetaine class, prepared for biochemical research use. Its molecule carries a dual-charged head group — a positively charged quaternary ammonium centre and a negatively charged sulfonate group held within a single structure — paired with a hydrophobic dodecyl hydrocarbon tail. This arrangement allows the compound to act as a detergent capable of solubilising membrane proteins and disrupting lipid structures, while remaining net neutral in overall charge across the biological working pH range commonly used in the laboratory.
