TCI B6408, chloromethyl benzoate (CAS 5335-05-7), is a highly electrophilic alkylating reagent used to install the benzoyloxymethyl group onto alcohols, phenols, carboxylic acids, thiols, and heterocyclic nitrogens. The acyloxymethyl motif it introduces is a well-established prodrug and protecting-group strategy, particularly for masking acidic or phosphate functionalities.
