2-Bromo-2-methylpropanenitrile is a tertiary alkyl bromide bearing a nitrile group on the same carbon centre. The weakened C–Br bond makes it a useful radical source and a common structural motif among initiators for controlled radical polymerisation such as ATRP. Its nitrile group can be further transformed into amides, carboxylic acids, amines or tetrazoles. TCI offers this building block in 1 g and 5 g sizes for research laboratory use.
