Description
Sodium 3-chloro-2-hydroxypropanesulfonate (CAS 126-83-0) from TCI is a water-soluble sulfoalkylating reagent combining a terminal chloride, an adjacent hydroxyl group, and a sodium sulfonate head. Under basic conditions it forms a reactive epoxide intermediate that installs anionic sulfonate groups onto nucleophilic substrates. It is widely used for modifying cellulose, starch, and other polysaccharides, as well as in surfactant and ion-exchange material research.
