4-(4-α-Cumylphenoxy)phthalonitrile (TCI C1163, CAS 83482-57-9) is a phthalocyanine precursor carrying a bulky cumylphenoxy substituent. Cyclotetramerisation of four such units gives peripherally substituted phthalocyanines whose bulky groups suppress aggregation and improve solubility in organic solvents. Such soluble macrocycles are valuable for near-infrared dyes, photosensitizers, and solution-processed organic semiconductor films.
