TCI C1297 5-Chloro-2-mercaptobenzothiazole is a heterocyclic building block bearing a reactive thiol group on a chlorinated benzothiazole core. The thiol readily undergoes S-alkylation and S-arylation, while the nitrogen–sulfur pair makes the scaffold a useful bidentate ligand for metal complexes. Derivatives of 2-mercaptobenzothiazole are also studied as corrosion inhibitors and functional additives in materials research.
