Description

TCI G0086 Triacetin is the triester of glycerol with acetic acid, commonly referred to as glyceryl triacetate. Unlike long-chain glycerides that exist as solids at ambient conditions, this compound is a colourless liquid of moderate viscosity because all three of its acyl chains are very short. In the laboratory, Triacetin serves several roles at once: as a building block for organic synthesis that supplies a protected glycerol framework, as a solvent for materials that dissolve poorly in water, and as a plasticising component in research on cellulose acetate and related polymers.
