Description
TCI H0060 Hexachloroethane is a simple organochlorine compound built from two carbon atoms whose every available position is occupied by a chlorine atom, giving a total of six chlorine substituents on an ethane skeleton. The material appears as a white crystalline solid with the distinctive property of subliming readily, passing directly from the solid state to vapour without going through a liquid phase under ordinary conditions. In the laboratory it serves as a chlorine source in certain chlorination reactions, as a comparison compound in the analysis of chlorinated organic substances, and as a model compound in environmental research concerned with the behaviour and degradation of organochlorine pollutants.

Handling and Storage
Store the material in a tightly closed container, since its tendency to sublime means that loosely sealed packaging will allow gradual loss of solid as vapour.
