Liquid Crystal (LC) Materials — includes cholesterol compounds and their carbonate derivatives, discotic liquid crystals, and nematic and smectic liquid crystals based on biphenyl, cyclohexyl, and fluorinated ring structures, which form various liquid crystal phases with distinctive molecular orientations.

These liquid crystal materials are used by electronic materials researchers for developing displays, optical films, and photonic components, where molecular orientation in the nematic, smectic, cholesteric, or discotic phase determines the optical response to an electric field. Cholesteryl derivatives are also used in studies of cholesteric phases for temperature sensor applications and colored reflective materials.
