Volatile Solutions — contains volatile gases or compounds such as dienes, alkenes, and ammonia that have been dissolved at measured concentrations in organic solvents or water, so they can be handled and dosed like ordinary liquid reagents in the laboratory.

These volatile solutions make it easier to add reactive gases such as 1,3-butadiene, isobutene, or 1-butene precisely and in a controlled manner into organic synthesis reactions, for example Diels-Alder reactions, alkylation, or polymerization, without the need to handle the gas in its pure form. Solution formats in various solvents such as dichloromethane, tetrahydrofuran, or isopropyl ether allow adjustment to the reaction system and temperature conditions used in the synthesis laboratory.
