Poly(9-vinylcarbazole), commonly called PVK, is a p-type semiconducting polymer used in organic electronics as a hole-transport material, a phosphorescent host and a blue emitting layer. Its backbone is a linear chain of (CH2-CH)n repeat units carrying pendant 9H-carbazole groups, which give the polymer an emission spectrum spanning the whole blue region. PVK is valued for its high thermal and chemical stability, hydrophobicity, large hole mobility and solution processability.
Charge transport in PVK is thought to proceed through both field-assisted and temperature-activated hopping, while light emission arises from radiative decay of a Frenkel exciton. With a HOMO of -5.8 eV and a LUMO of -2.2 eV, it is commonly applied as a hole-transporting and electron-blocking layer, and as a host polymer that boosts hole transport in OLEDs.
This material belongs to Ossila's Luminosyn™ range, purified by Soxhlet extraction with methanol, hexane and chlorobenzene under argon. Batch M2384A7 comes with batch-specific GPC data (Mw 191,601; Mn 35,813; PDI 5.35), useful for reporting in theses and publications.
