Ossila M2008S1 is a multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) powder, CAS 308068-56-6, with 99% purity. Each nanotube is built from several single-walled carbon nanotubes nested concentrically, forming a tubular hexagonal lattice of carbon atoms that gives the material its notable mechanical, thermal and electrical behaviour.
This grade has a diameter of 10 – 30 nm, a length of 1 – 2 μm and a specific surface area of 120 – 170 m2/g. It is supplied as a dry, black fibrous powder that can be dispersed in a solvent of the user's choice; DI water, DMF, THF, ethanol and acetone are recommended dispersants.
The stacked walls make MWCNTs very strong, stiff and durable, so they are added to composites to raise toughness and reliability. They also suit applications that benefit from improved dispersibility, and their synthesis and purification are less costly.
- Reinforcing composite materials to improve toughness, stiffness and reliability.
- Enhancing the electrical properties of polymers and other host materials.
- Preparing carbon nanotube-epoxy composites for thermal and electrical conductivity studies.
- Research on 1D carbon nanomaterials and thin-film electronics.

- Product code: M2008S1
- Product code: M2008S1
- Diameter: 10 – 30 nm
- Length: 1 – 2 μm
- Specific surface area: 120 – 170 m2/g
- Recommended dispersants: DI Water, DMF, THF, Ethanol, Acetone
MWCNTs are insoluble, so aqueous dispersion typically uses a surfactant such as sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate, kept below its critical micelle concentration, followed by ultrasonication and centrifugation. Limit sonication time and power, as excessive treatment can damage the nanotubes and shorten them. Refer to the MSDS before handling.
