P3HT, or regioregular poly(3-hexylthiophene-2,5-diyl) (CAS 104934-50-1), is a widely studied low-bandgap polymer donor used in organic photovoltaics, polymer solar cells, OLEDs and OFETs. This listing covers batches M107 (93.6% RR), M1010 (97.3% RR) and M1011 (97.6% RR), giving researchers a choice of molecular weight and regioregularity.
The M1011 grade, with the highest regioregularity, forms strongly crystalline films and suits OFETs, nanofibril formation and fast-drying OPVs at the thin interference peak (90 nm). In slow-drying thick-film OPVs (>200 nm) its high regioregularity may cause gelling and surface roughness. Lower molecular weight and lower regioregularity grades are better for inkjet printing and other large-area or slow-drying deposition where aggregation and roughness must be avoided.
All grades dissolve well (50 mg/ml) in chlorinated solvents including chloroform, chlorobenzene, dichlorobenzene and trichlorobenzene. Intermediate and lower molecular weight batches are preferred with non-chlorinated solvents such as xylene, toluene and THF thanks to their greater solubility. Its HOMO and LUMO levels are -5.2 eV and -3.2 eV.
