Ossila M2008S1 is a multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) powder (CAS 308068-56-6) with a purity of 99%, a diameter of 10 – 30 nm and a length of 1 – 2 μm. MWCNTs consist of several single-walled nanotubes nested concentrically, each built from a hexagonal lattice of carbon atoms. This nanoscale tubular structure gives them useful mechanical, thermal and electrical behaviour.
The multiple walls make these nanotubes very strong, adding stiffness and durability. Blended into composites, they raise toughness and reliability, and they suit applications where better dispersibility is an advantage. Their synthesis and purification are also less costly than for comparable materials.
The material is supplied as a dry, black fibrous powder with a specific surface area of 120 – 170 m²/g, ready to be dispersed in a solvent of your choice such as DI water, DMF, THF, ethanol or acetone. Because MWCNTs are insoluble, dispersion typically uses a surfactant followed by ultrasonication and centrifugation.
- Reinforcing material composites to improve toughness, stiffness and reliability.
- Enhancing the electrical properties of materials, for example in conductive polymer or epoxy composites.
- Research on thermal and electrical conductivity in carbon nanotube-epoxy composites.

MWCNTs are insoluble and are dispersed with a suitable surfactant, such as sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate for aqueous ionic systems, kept below its critical micelle concentration. Control sonication time and power carefully, since excessive ultrasonication can damage the nanotubes and shorten their average length. Consult the MSDS before handling.
