Ossila M572 is methylammonium bromide (MABr), also called methylamine hydrobromide, supplied at 99.995% purity as white crystals or powder. It serves as a precursor salt for making organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites for photovoltaic devices, light-emitting diodes and field-effect transistors.
MABr is the organic source used to form MAPbBr3 perovskite, which has a band gap of 2.3 eV. Because of this wider gap, MAPbBr3 is used to tune the band gap of mixed-halide MAPbX3 perovskites, to absorb high-energy photons, and as the front cell in tandem devices. Compared with its iodide counterpart, it can deliver a higher open-circuit voltage in perovskite solar cells; pure MAPbBr3 cells with a VOC of up to 1.40 V and a fill factor of 79% have been reported.
MAPbBr3 nanoplatelets have also been shown to work in LEDs, giving bright, narrow-band photoluminescence at 529 nm with quantum yields up to 85%. The material has a CAS number of 6876-37-5, a molecular weight of 111.97 g/mol and a melting point of 296 °C.
