Ossila M272 is methylammonium iodide (MAI), also known as methylamine hydroiodide (CAS 14965-49-2). It is a white crystalline solid used as a starting material for making organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites. These perovskites are studied for photovoltaics (PVs), light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and field-effect transistors (FETs).
This grade has a purity of 99.9%, measured by ICP-OES, and is supplied without recrystallization. Ossila recommends this non-recrystallized material for simpler ink preparation. The more heavily purified recrystallized grade has reduced solubility in DMF and DMSO because residual hydroiodic acid has been removed. DMF and DMSO are the suggested solvents for perovskite synthesis.
In Ossila's reference work, MAI was combined with PbCl2 at a 3:1 molar ratio in DMF to produce the light-absorbing layer of inverted perovskite solar cells. Ossila MAI was also used in a published study on strontium insertion in methylammonium lead iodide (Adv. Mater., 28, 9839-9845, 2016).
- Precursor for the synthesis of organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite materials.
- Fabrication of perovskite photovoltaic devices, for example MAI:PbCl2 active layers processed from DMF.
- Research on perovskite-based light-emitting diodes (LEDs).
- Research on perovskite field-effect transistors (FETs).
- Straightforward preparation of perovskite inks using the non-recrystallized grade.
