Ossila M173 is 2,4 Difluoro PTAA, a fluorine-substituted poly(triarylamine) supplied in 200 mg quantities. Its electron-rich structure combines a diphenylamine backbone with substituted phenyl side chains, making it a hole transport layer (HTL) material for organic electronic devices such as OLEDs and OFETs, where it helps improve charge extraction.
Beyond transporting holes, PTAA can serve as an electron blocking layer, lowering the likelihood of electron–hole recombination and the associated energy loss. Because fluorine is electron deficient, fluorinated derivatives such as 1F-PTAA and 2F-PTAA shift the HOMO level downward, which raises the open-circuit voltage (VOC) and with it the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of the device.
Substituted PTAAs are also of interest in blends with small molecules for solution-processed films. On its own PTAA offers only modest mobility, but paired with small molecules it can deliver good coating behaviour together with high mobility. The M173 grade has an Mw of 4,712 g/mol, an Mn of 3,504 g/mol and a PDI of 1.34.
- Hole transport layer for improving charge extraction in OLED and OFET devices.
- Electron blocking layer to reduce electron–hole recombination and energy loss.
- Interlayer material for raising VOC and power conversion efficiency through a lowered HOMO level.
- Polymer component in small molecule blends for solution-processed high-mobility thin-film transistors.
