D18, also known as PCE18, is a conjugated copolymer used as an electron donor material in organic photovoltaic (OPV) research. Its backbone alternates electron-donating benzodithiophene (BDT) units with electron-accepting fused-ring dithienobenzothiadiazole (DTBT) units. The fused DTBT unit gives the polymer a larger molecular plane and more extended conjugation, resulting in a hole mobility of 1.59 × 10-3 cm2 V-1 s-1.
Paired with the Y6 acceptor in a single-junction non-fullerene polymer solar cell (NF-PSC), D18 has delivered a device efficiency of 18.22%, with a certified efficiency of 17.6%. The polymer dissolves in o-xylene, chloroform, chlorobenzene and dichlorobenzene, so it can also be processed from non-halogenated solvents.
This material is part of the Luminosyn™ range. It is purified by Soxhlet extraction with methanol, hexane and chlorobenzene under argon, and each batch comes with its own GPC data. Batch M2248A3 has an Mw of 91,999, an Mn of 40,877 and a PDI of 2.25.
- Electron donor in single-junction non-fullerene polymer solar cells, such as D18:Y6 devices.
- Active layer material for high-efficiency organic photovoltaic devices.
- Research on all-polymer solar cells.
- Hole-transport layer material studies, including perovskite solar cells.
