The Ossila C2015B1 is an aqueous silver/silver chloride (Ag/AgCl) reference electrode for electrochemistry cells. It supplies a constant reference potential for cyclic voltammetry, electrolysis, potential measurements and corrosion testing.

Inside, a silver wire coated with silver chloride sits in contact with a potassium chloride filling solution, typically 3.0-3.5 M up to saturated KCl in distilled water. The filling solution is not supplied. The electrode is sealed with a ceramic frit junction, and its simple, stable design can be miniaturized.

The electrode works best in neutral solutions and can also be used in weakly acidic or basic media in the pH = 1 - 8 range. For strongly basic solutions, Hg/HgO is the recommended reference. For strongly acidic solutions, use Hg/Hg2SO4, and for non-aqueous systems, use Ag/Ag+. The electrode is offered as a single piece or in packs of five or ten.

  • Serves as the reference electrode in cyclic voltammetry measurements.
  • Supplies a constant reference potential during electrolysis and other electrochemical studies.
  • Provides the reference for potential measurements in aqueous, near-neutral solutions.
  • Acts as a stable reference in corrosion testing.

  • Product code: C2015B1
  • Product code: C2015B1
  • Electrode type: Aqueous Ag/AgCl reference electrode
  • Element: Silver wire coated with silver chloride
  • Junction: Ceramic frit
  • Filling solution: Potassium chloride, typically 3.0-3.5 M to saturated, in distilled water (not included)
  • Suitable pH range: pH = 1 - 8

Do not leave the electrode in strongly acidic or basic solutions for long periods, because this can oxidize the silver wire and break down the AgCl coating. AgCl is light sensitive, so store the electrode in the dark when it is not in use. Clean it regularly. If the ceramic frit becomes blocked and cannot be cleared, fit a replacement salt bridge. To remove the detachable white cap, hold the glass tube and gently twist and pull the cap. The glass tube is delicate, so avoid applying strong force to it.
