The Ossila Electrochemical Cell with Luggin Capillary (C2012B1) is a three-electrode glass cell fitted with a Luggin capillary, also called a Luggin probe, that holds the reference electrode. Because the curved capillary brings the reference electrode bridge close to the working electrode, uncompensated solution resistance between the two is reduced and potential readings become more accurate.
A Luggin capillary is a small electrolyte-filled tube in which the reference electrode sits. Its salt bridge tip lets ions pass while keeping the reference solution apart from the bulk electrolyte. The cell also has a gas inlet with a bubble filter, so inert gases can be introduced without gas shock or bubbling in the solution.
The 50 ml glass body is closed by a screw-fit PTFE lid with POM feedthroughs providing three electrode inlets, a detachable gas bubbler inlet, a gas outlet and a moveable Luggin pocket bridge. Electrode ports are 6.5 mm in diameter and gas inlets 3 mm. Note that the curved salt bridge tip may deteriorate in strongly acidic or basic electrolytes; in such cases, using the reference electrode directly without the Luggin capillary is recommended.
