The Ossila Bar Coater in this configuration is an automatic film applicator fitted with a vacuum-bed stage and supplied with a set of 16 wire-wound Mayer bars. It is designed for laboratory-scale film optimization, producing uniform large-area wet films with thicknesses from 6 µm to 200 µm.
Bar movement is programmable from 0.05 to 250 mm.s-1 in 0.01 mm.s-1 steps, keeping speed and pressure consistent from run to run. The stage offers up to 290 mm (A4) of travel and a maximum coating width of 225 mm, and accepts Mayer bars from 220 mm to 255 mm in width. The anodized aluminum vacuum stage holds flexible or foil substrates flat and still, which is essential for defect-free coatings, and a quick lock design makes cleaning the stage and drip tray between coatings straightforward.
The wire-wound rods are made from 304 stainless steel, giving reproducible films at a lower cost than formed rods. The system also works with other coating tools such as blade coaters, Sheen applicators and Bird applicators. The kit includes the Automatic Film Applicator, the Mayer rod set and a power supply.

Clean the substrate and bars before coating, as dirt or debris can cause defects across the whole film. Level the machine in all directions with a spirit level, and make sure the substrate is firmly secured during coating.
