The Ossila Bar Coater is an automatic film applicator for depositing uniform, large-area wet films in the lab. This configuration pairs a vacuum-bed stage with the Ossila Vacuum Pump and a set of 16 formed Mayer rods, making it well suited to holding flexible or foil substrates flat and still while coating.
Stage speed is programmable from 0.05 to 250 mm.s -1 in 0.01 mm.s -1 steps, over a travel length of up to 290 mm (A4) and coating widths up to 225 mm. The included rods cover wet film thicknesses from 6 µm to 200 µm. Formed rods resist damage and contamination better than wire-wound bars, and their groove packing density is easily controlled.
The anodized aluminum vacuum stage has 0.8 mm holes on a 7.75 mm square grid, while the pump reaches a maximum vacuum of 330 mbar at up to 7 L/min. A quick lock design simplifies cleaning of the stage and drip tray, and the system also accepts blade coaters, Sheen applicators and Bird applicators.

Clean the substrate and bar before each coating, as debris can create defects across the whole film. Keep the substrate firmly secured and use a spirit level to check the instrument is level in all directions.
