The Ossila Doctor Blade Coater is an automatic film applicator for producing uniform thin films over large areas. This configuration pairs a 100 mm adjustable stainless steel applicator with a vacuum bed that holds the substrate evenly across its whole surface, making it well suited to flexible substrates, foils and polymer films.
The 304 stainless steel applicator uses digital micrometer gauges with 1 µm resolution, allowing the gap height to be set anywhere from 0 to 10 mm. The blade is calibrated to the zero point of the gauge, which improves reproducibility between runs. Coating speed is set in the integrated software from 0.05 mm.s-1 to 250 mm.s-1 in 0.01 mm.s-1 steps, so the process can be matched to a broad range of solution viscosities.
The stage travels up to 290 mm, and a quick lock design simplifies cleaning of the stage and drip tray between coatings. Besides blade coating, the system accepts other accessories such as Mayer bars, Sheen applicators and Bird applicators. The vacuum stage is anodized aluminum with 0.8 mm holes in a square grid at 7.75 mm spacing.
