Description

[(Vinyloxy)methyl]benzene, commonly known as benzyl vinyl ether, is an electron-rich vinyl ether used widely in polymer and synthetic chemistry. It serves as a classical monomer for cationic polymerisation, giving poly(vinyl ether)s whose benzyl groups can later be removed by hydrogenolysis. In organic synthesis it acts as an electron-rich alkene in cycloadditions and as a convenient acetal-forming hydroxyl protecting reagent. TCI supplies the material in 5 g and 25 g pack sizes for laboratory research use.
