Description
[1,1'-Biphenyl]-2-carbonyl chloride (CAS 14002-52-9) is a highly reactive acyl chloride bearing the acyl group ortho to the biphenyl linkage. It reacts readily with amines and alcohols to give biphenyl-2-carboxamides and esters, and can also acylate aromatic rings under Friedel–Crafts conditions. Because acid chlorides hydrolyse on contact with moisture and release corrosive HCl, the reagent must be handled in a fume hood using dry glassware, anhydrous solvents, and preferably an inert atmosphere.
