TCI 3-Chloro-2-butanone (CAS 4091-39-8) is a short-chain α-chloroketone whose adjacent carbonyl and halogen create a highly reactive electrophilic centre. It is a classic partner for thioamides, thiourea and amidines in the construction of thiazole, imidazole and related heterocyclic rings, while its ketone group remains available for further transformation. The product comes in 25 mL and 500 mL packages for research and more intensive preparative work. As a lachrymator and strong irritant, it must be handled exclusively in a fume hood with sealed goggles and chemical-resistant gloves, and stored tightly closed in a cool, dark place.
