1-Chloro-3-methylbutane (TCI C0199, CAS 107-84-6), commonly known as isoamyl chloride, is a branched primary alkyl halide supplied as a liquid. It is widely used to introduce the isoamyl group into nucleophiles and to prepare Grignard reagents for further synthesis. Its primary halide structure also makes it a clear teaching example for SN2 substitution chemistry.
