2-Chloro-2-methylbutane (TCI C0200, CAS 594-36-5) is a tertiary alkyl chloride supplied as a liquid reagent. Its readiness to ionise into a tertiary carbocation makes it a standard substrate for SN1 solvolysis kinetics and elimination experiments. In synthesis it can also serve as an alkyl source in Friedel-Crafts reactions on aromatic substrates. AMI Scientific supplies this TCI product in 25 mL, 100 mL, and 500 mL packs for research and teaching laboratories in Indonesia.
