It is most commonly used as a precursor to cyclohexene oxide through base-mediated ring closure, giving access to a wide range of 1,2-disubstituted cyclohexane derivatives. The compound also serves as a model substrate in mechanistic and stereochemical studies of substitution and elimination reactions.
