2-Chloroethanesulfonyl chloride (CAS 1622-32-8) from TCI is a highly reactive sulfonylating agent and a convenient in situ source of vinylsulfonyl chloride. Treatment with base eliminates the chloride to give a vinyl sulfone electrophile widely used in covalent inhibitor research and Michael-type chemistry. It also reacts readily with amines and alcohols to form sulfonamides and sulfonate esters under mild conditions.
