Cyanine Dyes, Squarylium Dyes

Cyanine Dyes, Squarylium Dyes — contains cyanine dyes with a polymethine chain linking two nitrogen heterocyclic rings (indolium, benzothiazolium), as well as squarylium dyes based on squaric acid rings, which absorb and fluoresce across the visible to near-infrared wavelength range. The length of the polymethine chain determines the absorption spectrum shift of these compounds.

Cyanine Dyes, Squarylium Dyes are used as fluorescent dyes in fluorescence microscopy, as markers for cell membranes or organelles such as mitochondrial staining, and as near-infrared absorbing chromophores in optical imaging. Cell biology researchers and photonic materials scientists use these indolium and benzothiazolium derivatives for live-cell tracking as well as for developing light-absorbing materials in optoelectronic devices.
