TCI C0795 2,2,2-Trichloroethyl Chloroformate (CAS 17341-93-4) is the standard reagent for introducing the Troc protecting group onto amines and alcohols. Troc protection is valued for its orthogonality, since it can be removed reductively — typically with zinc — without disturbing acid- or base-labile protecting groups. The reagent is also used to prepare carbamates and carbonates in carbohydrate, peptide, and natural product synthesis. Supplied by TCI in 25 g and 250 g packs, it is moisture-sensitive and corrosive, and must be handled dry in a fume hood.
